I went to the Good Food & Wine Show expecting the usual food-and-wine experience. I imagined tasting a few interesting wines, discovering new flavours, and perhaps leaving with a shopping bag full of things I had not planned to buy. What I did not expect was to become fascinated by a tea ceremony.
That was one of the surprises of attending this food event Brisbane has to offer. There was plenty happening around the venue, from food tastings and cooking demonstrations to conversations about Australian produce and drinks. Yet, somehow, the quieter experience of watching tea being prepared caught my attention.
There was something wonderfully different about it. The ceremony was not simply about drinking tea. It was about slowing down, paying attention and appreciating the small details. The movements were deliberate, the presentation was thoughtful, and the atmosphere felt completely different from the busy tasting areas.
It reminded me why events in Australia can be so enjoyable. They are often about more than the main attraction. You arrive with one idea of what you will experience, and you leave having discovered something completely different.
The Good Food & Wine Show brought together so many flavours, cultures and experiences that it was almost impossible to see everything in one visit. For me, the tea ceremony became one of those unexpected memories that stayed long after the wine tastings were over.
Sometimes, the best part of attending a food event is not necessarily what you planned to find. It is the unexpected experience that makes you stop, look closer and remember the day differently.
I went for the wine. I left talking about tea — and honestly, I am not complaining.
